JT Taylor was born and raised in Florida. He join the Army at age 17 and has been deployed overseas 6 times. Most recently JT served in Iraq in 2003 and 2004 with the 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment. JT has been rock crawling since he moved to Colorado in 1990. JT competed in the 1998 BFG rock crawling championship in Las Cruces. He drove his black Toyota to the competition, competed the yota and drove it home. JT notes,?Shannon Cambell still bitches about me beating him down there!!!? JT moved on to RCCA competition in Farmington, NM as well as competing more local events. JT found that the Rock Crawling was getting too political and boring.
Upon returning from Iraq in 2004, JT attended a Rock Race with competitor Harrison "Crash" Beene. One ride is all it took for JT to know this was the sport for him. JT worked with Crash and modified Crash?s chassis design to build his own. JT raced the 2005 XRRA season and finished 5th overall. JT picked up his title sponsor Tube Shark prior to the 2006 XRRA season.
In a sport as young as Rock Racing, JT is a seasoned veteran. JT is one of the top and most recognizable competitors in the XRRA series. JT finished third in the past two XRRA events in Cortez and Colorado Springs. JT also picked up the Big Air title in Cortez, launching the Tube Shark buggy 14 feet into the air. JT stated, "The landing felt like a plan crash."
