It was great that they figured out what had happened but it did not change the fact that he was stuck and could not start his Jeep if he wanted to. Therefore, they decide to winch the Jeep up the rest of the obstacle but due to the angle of the incline, the winch was only pulling him down into the rock and not up and over it. Here is when the bright ideas start coming out to try and get him out of the predicament he was in. Someone pulls out this big piece of wood and places it between the winching Jeep and Kevin?s to create a higher angle in which to pull him from. I think everyone in the background was thinking the same thing, ?What the hell are they doing???? As most of us can predict as they started to winch cable in it was embedded in the wood and took two guys jumping on it to release it. I am sure that did great things to the synthetic winch line. So we are still back at square one with no movement to the Unlimited. Finally he got just enough pull with the winch to lift his tail pipe out of the dirt so that we could clear it all out and was able to start his Jeep. Then up and over he went almost running into Ben?s stinger at the top.
Now that we had all made it up and over it was time to hit the trail and get back to the campsite. On our way down the trail we pulled off to the side and took a small hike to go watch some rigs try and make it up Carnage Canyon, an extreme trail which has requirements that should be taken seriously, unless you want to give your rig to the Gods of the rocks as a peace offering. Sitting on the edge of the cliff watching these extremely well built rigs/buggies throwing dirt and bouncing all around I knew my jeep could make it right up no problem. (Yeah Right) Now I felt even more that mine was the little jeep on the mountain. One of the rigs took a nice bounce on the steep cliff wall and flopped right over exposing its belly side to those of us watching. With everyone helping he was pushed back over with in seconds and tried it again making it up that time.
Sadly it was time to make the trip back and camp up the campsite and head on out. Not even 10 miles down the road we came across a small truck with a camper that had slid off the side of the road and was stuck. We all pulled over and talked with the couple and saw that the wheels had been spinning and dug quite the ruts that these guys were not getting going to get out of. Scott pulled up in front of the truck and James attached the winch cable to the truck and pulled him back on the road. The couple was very thank full and were happy to be on their way. During our trip down the mountains the sky had the most beautiful tone to it, as we headed into the clouds it was an orange glow to the front and in my review mirror it was a bright shinny blue from the rain and sun behind us. What a great end to a fun weekend.
